Which Dorms are the non-party ones?

My DS was accepted and I need to pay the room fee. We need to select 3 dorms. He is not a partier and I am assuming that he will get into honors. Which dorms are a better fit for him?

Myers Hall is the main honors housing facility at UGA:

Go Dawgs!

The freshmen high-rises all the only party dorms

So beside Meyers which 2 should I put down for him? Or which ones are the freshman
high rises that I should NOT put down for him?

UGA just sent a mailing yesterday about the new Rutherford Hall, which will be opening fall 2013. I wonder if it will be a possibility for incoming freshman? The article surely made me want to stay there.

My daughter lived in Reed her freshman year and it definitely was not a party dorm. The downside to Reed was that it is not close to a dining hall but it is centrally located.

There will also be by summer 2014, the replacement to Bolton dining hall opening up. I understand many students choose to continue to have the meal plan even after they stop living on campus.

“The freshmen high-rises all the only party dorms”

Pretty much true anywhere. Most partying goes on downtown anyways. If it’s not your thing you can avoid it. You should probably get honors housing if you’re an honors student. You’ll find more your crowd there and the buildings may be nicer.

Myers is crazy expensive though. Other dorms that are nice but less expensive are in ECV or Reed, but they’re mostly upperclassman and you’ll need a car to get places. Payne, Rutherford, Soule, etc. are ****tier but they’re non-party dorms and mainly freshmen.

A quick update for some of you interested in quieter dorms.

Brown Hall will be open to undergraduates in the fall of 2013. Brown Hall is located on the UGA-GHSU Medical Partnership’s Health Science campus.

There is also plans of a new $30 million housing complex downtown called The Standard. The Standard will be opening in 2014.

Also, beginning fall 2013 Brumby Hall will be coed with each floor designated as male or female.

I hear Myers is really nice. It’s close to the 24/7 dining hall Snelling.

Myers, 1516, and Reed. They are also the most expensive. 1516 is nice as heck though but it’s really far away from everything.

Avoid Brumby, Russell, Creswell…yeah. Just avoid those.
