I know this sounds like a really trivial question, but I was just curious to know what email address people usually email from when emailing inquiries or responses to faculty. I'm more familiar and comfortable with my current gmail account, but at the same time I'm aware that the netbadge account may be more "official" or favoured. There probably isn't a rule on the matter, but what do people usually use?

Some people use their GMail and others their UVA; the UVA one is the one on all of the class lists. Also UVA is using GMail (...or Microsoft, you can choose) this coming year anyways. As long as it isn't something ridiculous, I'm sure the professor could care less which one you use.

on that note, does anyone know when incoming first years get the e-mail inviting them to set up their UVa accounts with Microsoft Live or Gmail? I use my UVa e-mail rarely because it looks old and the mailbox clears itself whenever it wants (I changed the settings; it does it anyway.) So I'm looking forward to changing to a Gmail format.

galosien: you should create a crazy e-mail (like sexysingaporelegs452) and send it. I bet they won't forget that. ;) And I bet they may not respond. :)

You know, there's a place on the web where some anonymous faculty share the crazy emails they get from students. Sometimes the email addresses make me cringe.

The few times I've taken a look, I've never felt like the emails have come from students at my schools, thank goodness. I'd like to think that they have better judgment. :)

you'll be after all of the current students, and im a rising 3rd yr and havent received my email yet, so it will be a while. itc has some efficiency issues. hence not using uva to run email anymore in the first place...

Dean J, Could you post the link to that website? Seems interesting.

I just wanted to let you all know that some faculty (and admission officers) notice strange email addresses. I'm not going to post a link.

Doesn't your email stay the same for all 4 years?

email as in a message not an account, regarding picking google vs microsoft, but minus this migration your email does stay the same all 4 yrs

i prefer to use my uva email for everything at this point, whether it's at school, home, what have you. sync it up to outlook and you're golden.
