which engineering field is easiest?

I was wondering which field of engineering is easiest to get accepted into.

I am not so sure, but I’ve heard ECE/CS/BioE are little bit harder to get in than other majors.

The difference is too small to be something you should care about when applying. Choose the one that’s interesting to you.

i know, i want to get onto mechanical engineering, it that on the easier side?

no, ME is one of the harder ones to get into.

BUT

if u want to do mechanical engineering, apply under ‘Engineering Mechanics’ it is essentially the same degree, same classes, but listed under a different department name and different professors (TAM instead of ME, recently the Theoretical and Applied Mechanics department was merged with Mechanical Engineering, but they kept the degree available)

Eng Mechanics is easier to get into than ME, so do that if u want to do ME

i am sure you know that nothing is necessariliy ‘easy’ to get into at uiuc, just some are harder than others

could I apply to both Mechanical engineering and Engineering mechanics, and if I dont get accepted to Mechanical engineering go into engineering mechanics?

i believe that if you somehow indicate that you are interested in the engineering mechanics field in your essay, they may offer you admission to eng. mechanics in the case that you are not admitted to mechanical engineering

here is what uiuc wrote on their transfer information page:

“Admission is selective for the Aerospace and Mechanical majors. We will be holding all applications and reviewing them together for these majors once the deadline has passed. Based on the quality of the applicants, we may only be able to offer admission to a select number of students who have GPAs above the listed guidelines. Some applicants may be offered admission into an alternate program in Engineering. If you have applied into one of these majors, you should list alternate majors that you would be interested in on our campus in your essay.”

i have a friend who applied to mechanical engineering and didnt get in, so he was undecided for a year (but took necessary math and physics courses) and got into engineering mechanics with no problems
