Which Engineering Schools Are For Me?

I was wondering if you guys could quickly recommend some schools with strong engineering programs that fit me. I am mostly interested in mechanical engineering, aeronautical engineering, and/or civil engineering. I have a 3.81 GPA and a 2140 SAT (800 M, 680 CR, 660 W). I got a 780 for US History and 800 on Math II. I also have fairly strong extra curriculars. So what do you think would be realistic Reaches, Matches, and Safeties for me? I am most interested in schools in the Northeast (no farther south than Pennsylvania). Thanks for the help. :D

UC Berkeley is a high match if you’re in state.
Cornell is a reach.
MIT and CalTech are high reaches.
UGA is a safety, especially if you’re in state.

Thanks for the reply, Spatula. But what about schools located in the northeast? I get home sick pretty easily. :P

lehigh would be a match

Northeast:

Columbia University (NY) 3.5

Harvard University (MA) 3.5

University of Pennsylvania 3.5

Brown University (RI) 3.3

Lehigh University ¶ 3.2

Yale University (CT) 3.2

Case Western Reserve Univ. (OH) 3.1

Dartmouth College (NH) 3.0

Drexel University ¶ 3.0

University at Buffalo–SUNY* 2.8

Worcester Polytechnic Inst. (MA) 2.8

I think Brown’s eng’g dept is pretty decent. I’m not sure if your stats are good enough for Brown though.

Other superb schools in the NE:
Princeton
Harvard
Yale
Cornell
UPenn

RPI
Tufts
Penn State

Berkeley is in the West, so it should not be in the list. But even then, the OP’s GPA is low for Berkeley.

You should also consider Michigan, a top ten engineering school. There are many students from the northeast who attend and it is a relatively short plane ride from there.
