I wrote two college essays because I wanted to see how each of them would develop, but I'm still not sure which to use. The first one is about Paris (the city, not a person), and how I've loved the city for years because it's one of my clearest memories of my father and also because I want to major in Medieval Studies and seeing Notre Dame was a huge turning point in that decision.

The other essay is about my three closest friends and the place I have amongst them. It focuses on switching schools and how I've changed as a person by being able to be more spontaneous and fun-loving because of them.

The first seems more collegy to me, but I felt more strongly about the second one because I'm so close to my friends, and I feel that that really comes out in the writing. Which do you guys think would be better?

nobody will be able to say for sure until you actually do the essay, but if you have time, write both, but write the one about your friends first. I think the personal essays are the most effective as long as your personality shines through.

It seems like more people like the second… anyone else have an opinion? I know it’s ultimately my choice and no one can make it for me, but I’d like to get some outside opinions besides my best friends, since I think they were all a little biased when they said they liked the one about them. :p
