Hi all -

I'm new to this whole financial aid thing. I know that I am supposed to fill out the 08-09 FAFSA. But my brother, who will begin sophomore year of college in September, filled out the FAFSA last year. So which one does he fill out? The 08-09 or 07-08 Renewal?

Thanks!

Your brother will file the 08-09 renewal when it is available.

What is the difference between the 08-09 renewal and starting a new 08-09 then using the copy from last year option?

It's much easier to do a renewal than to start all over again and fill in all the information from scratch. If someone has already completed a FAFSA in previous years, they should use the PIN and do a renewal FAFSA. If it's for aid beginning fall 2008, they do the 2008-2009 FAFSA.

You can choose the new application option and FAFSA will recognize that you submitted one last year and ask if you want to copy last years info automatically. That's what I just did. My question is whether or not I should have waited until the renewal option came online.

tphssenior, we just completed the new application and it also recognized that we had already completed a form last year. Since it knows that this a renewal (asked if we want to use some info from last year), I think that this is fine.

New Years day and I will not have to file a fafsa (Yeah!!! tossing confetti).

sybbie, CONGRATULATIONS!

New Year's Day...but DD is going to be a junior and her deadline is March. I think on this one, we can actually get the taxes done FIRST.

DS is independent...his is also due in March, but I don't have anything to do with that one!!!

No more Profiles for me...YIPPEE!!!!!
