When I submitted my National College Match application, I indicated that my parents were "separated" and that my dad is my non-custodial parent. I think I may have been wrong about that. My parents are separated not because of marriage issues but because of legal and job issues. Both of parents are undocumented and my dad now lives in Korea. I thought separated meant just separated regardless of marriage issues. Now I am starting to think that because they were never separated or divorced that my dad is still my custodial parent along with my mom.
I already emailed Questbridge notifying them of my situation but I doubt they can do anything about my application especially since the finalist results are coming out soon (i ranked). Oh and another vital piece of information. My dad never filed his taxes while my mom did.

If I do become a finalist, can I just send in the CSS Profile without the Non-Custodial profile? On my Questbridge App its indicated that I would have to send in the Non-custodial profile, but I thought what I indicated on Questbridge wouldn't matter unless I send in the official financial aid documents (CSS Profile).

Fill out the CSS profile correctly and make a note somewhere on your supplements (or in an email) to each college explaining your error. Don’t go into the detail you did in this post because it’s a little confusing and probably TMI. Just tell them that your QB app lists your parents as separated ( you can say you were confused and leave it at that) but that they are not separated and you have filled out the CSS profile accurately to reflect their actual marital situation. That should do it.

@nynightowl I have a question regarding the CSS Profile. If your parents own no business and are together but not married do you have to fill one of those out? I’m not sure what the CSS Profile means or is. And can I just fax my parent’s tax forms?

@Marissa, what’s your QB status right now? If you are ranking schools you will have to fill out the CSS profile and send it to every school you rank. It’s a financial aid form like FAFSA but more in-depth. Most selective colleges require it. There’s a supplement for if you own a business but that doesn’t pertain to you obviously. You access the CSS profile by logging into your College Board account and clicking on the link for the CSS - you’ll see it. It’s expensive: $25 filing fee plus $16 per school but if you’re low income they should waive all the fees…you won’t know this until you get to the payment page though. Lmk if you have any more questions or problems with filling it out.
