Which Foreign/Classical Language Should I take at Ball State?

Hey everyone,

I’m an incoming freshman to Ball State University for the Fall of 2018. I have orientation next week, and I need to decide on which classes I want to take, including language classes. I’m a Telecommunications/Video Production Major, so I need to have four semesters of a single foreign/classical language. After college, I would like to one day work in film as a Director, Video Editor, or any number of cool positions. I would imagine that this would make French my first choice, but I may be wrong.
My options are (in no order):

  • Arabic
  • Chinese
  • French (Could be useful for my film/media interests.)
  • German
  • Classic Greek (I like Greek mythology and stories like The Odyssey and Iliad.)
  • Japanese (Could be useful for my film/media interests.)
  • Classic Latin (I took Etymology in high school for literally one day and then dropped it. The subject and environment felt very dry and boring, but maybe it’s different in college.)
  • Spanish (I understand the practicality of this language, but I tried taking it sophomore year in high school and ended up dropping it four weeks in because I didn’t care for it.)

Thanks in advance,
A Curious Cardinal.
