It sounds like your school’s grading is very different from typical grading in the U.S. The chart you found is more typical of a school here. Obviously, a teacher giving a 50% in your school does not intend to give the student a failing grade, so your option #3 is more accurate. Do students from your school often apply to U.S. colleges? You can check with your guidance counselor or college advisor to see the “college profile” that they will provide with your transcript, to see what your school tells colleges about how grades are calculated.

Unweighted GPA is just your “regular” GPA. Each course semester grade is added up and divided by the number of semester credits.

Weighted GPA is provided by some schools, but not by all. It is intended to give more credit for grades in harder courses. Schools which weight grades use different schemes to calculate the weighted GPA. So an “A” in Honors or AP courses would have more effect on your GPA than an “A” in a regular course.

Many colleges recalculate GPA according to their own system (for example, leaving out PE, re-weighting classes) anyway.

Hope this helps.

its helps alots thanks :)

It sounds really confusing- but I wouldn’t worry about it too much. A lot of schools have weird GPA scales. My school had an A at 95 and it was tough- so you could end up with a “lower” GPA even though you never made “bad” grades or Cs. Almost all schools recalculate your GPA, just make sure that your guidance counselor or whoever sends in your transcript posts the grading scale on there- I think the school you apply to recalculates your GPA.
