If he is admitted to a competitive private school or a very top out of state public, then merit based scholarships are either not available or extremely competitive. Working hard granted you the admission to great schools and a chance for merit aid, but neither one is guaranteed. You should be very happy that your family income should be able to support you to any schools, while most students cannot even apply to many schools due to financial reason disregarding their credential.</p>
