Which hotel is the best to stay at?

I am planning on visiting Columbia, and I was wondering which hotel is the best to stay at. I know there is an accommodations page on the website with a bunch of links, but I don't know which one to choose. Anyone have any personal experiences/recommendations?

i like the beacon personally. and depending on when you go it can be decently affordable. i’ve also heard there is apparently a b&b on the upperwestside that is nice, but don’t know the name.

Thanks! I will look into the Beacon.

Morningside Inn is within walking distance of Columbia. The bus from LaGuardia to Columbia has its terminal stop within a block or two. Rooms are about $100 a night. We’ve stayed there a couple times and the rooms were clean. They have little kitchen facilities on each floor and there are grocery stores around. It’s not fancy----ranked about a 2 star—but affordable and close if those things are important. Union Theological Seminary also has rooms and you can walk to Columbia from there also. Rooms were a bit more than Morningside. I haven’t stayed at UTS for 3.5 years (stayed there when moving our son in). We stay at the Morningside since we are now paying 2 college tuitions.

The Hotel Bellaclaire on the Upper West Side is nice, and affordable. (we paid about 109 a night). It is on West 77th, so It is not the closest to Columbia but it IS close to the 1 train, which stops right at the Campus! It places you semi-close to the Museum of Natural History, Central Park, and in between Columbia and Lincoln Center (when you take the train).

Look up ON THE AVE hotel
My daughter is going to Columbia for the Columbia Scholastic Press Conference in March and that is where they stay. She went last year and said it was decent and just a few blocks away.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I am going to check out all of their websites right now to check the prices and proximity to Columbia.

BTW, has anyone ever stayed at East Campus? I heard they had hotel suites.

I remember looking into them a couple years ago. They were more expensive than UTS or Morningside Inn. I don’t know if they still have them.
