which internship?

which internship would you choose?

i've been interviewing for the past month and i've gotten into the two i've inteviewed for (which surprised me because i thought i totally bombed them).
Anyways, i'll be doing either one full time and i was wondering which would look better on my resume. I am thinking about majoring in finance and thinking about doing ibanking (leaning more towards corporate finance).
I need an answer by Friday.

1.) internship with a botique merchant bank. I'll be doing mostly research on companies that PE companies might be interested in buying. I'll have exposure to the finance world, PE companies and how the deals work.
Problems - low pay (doesn't really matter to me but it'd be nice to buy some nice things while im working), far away (1 hr 15 min commute each way, probably going to have to live with friends in that area).

2.)internship with a large, well known company at their distribution center. I'll be working as a temporary manager with my own team. Responsible for team members, evaluation and reports. Will make comments on how to make the operations more efficient etc..
Problems - not finance related, early start time (7am)

merchant bank

easy choice, merchant bank.

the thing about the merchant bank internship is that i'll be doing super basic work.

people have been telling me more responsibility > peon, no matter what field its in.

the merchant bank sounds better. there are always fancy words that will make your responsibilites in internships sound more important than they actually were. thats what your career office at your college is meant to do.

can't agree more with the MK99.

eh i guess i could BS... thats how i got here in the first place :)

Merchant Bank. It's more in line with what you want to do and long commute for 2 months is not too bad.

alright, thanks for the advice.

just in case anyone was wondering, i choose to do both (like a true ibanker... err maybe not).

basically stuff came up, one company didn't get back to me in time so i had to commit to the other one. however, i found out i could still do the other internship part time and since i got the graveyard shift (6pm - 2:30 am) it kinda works out.

im not sure if i can handle this but i will definitely try.

have you ever looked into wether wedbush offers internship opps?

Go for the merchant bank. Everyone knows interns don't do any work of significant influence.

i beg to differ, it depends on what internship

Sure you can always say it depends, but I mean generally if you're an intern they're not going to send you out to entertain clients, unless your internship is in a sales role.

i hear lots of USC kids go to wedbush for internships (my friend said almost all the USC resumes he saw had wedbush on them)

and i think i will actually be doing stuff for my managment internship, the person made it clear that i had to be professional/responsible since i am in charge of 20+ employees...

but its cool, i'm going to do both. hopefully i don't fall asleep on the freeway and crash.
