Hello, I just wanted your thoughts on this. I am currently a senior in high school on the minimum graduation requirement plan, 1.7 GPA, with a projected SAT/ACT of 1350/29(GPA & grad plan due to health circumstances). I would love to go any of these schools to study Fashion Design:
*Texas Tech University
*University of North Texas
*Columbia College Chicago
*PhilaU
*MassArt
*FIT
*Columbus College of Art and Design
*RISD
*School of the Art Institute of Chicago
*Marymount University
*VCU

Now my question is, should I opt for the community college route to get all my basics done and THEN apply over to said colleges so I have a higher GPA and so it looks better or just go ahead and apply right now? I do not have a strong portfolio at ATM either. Thank you all! :)

It’s almost too late for you to be asking. You would need to get recommendations quickly and start work on your applications. I suggest doing that, perhaps to the 3 or 4 least selective schools on your list, but also wait to see how your test scores and this semester’s grades come out before making a firm decision about finalizing your applications.

If you can manage a 1350 or 29 and have strong grades in the fall term (like 3.2 or better), that’s far above what your GPA would indicate and you should be able to handle the workload at one of these schools. In that case, applying might be worth a shot. Otherwise, time at community college will serve you well before transferring to a 4-year school.

Also, consider your financial circumstances. Can you afford an expensive out of state school?
