Which is better Babson or Bentley?

I got accepted to both and cant decide between them , which one do you think is better and more importantly why?

well if your intended concentration is entrepreneurship, then i'd say babson cuz it's ranked #1 in the nation...for 13 consecutive years. something crazy like that. if you want a business focus, and business only, i'd say babson will give that to you. but if you want a broader education, i'd say go to bentley? just my 2 cents. correct me if i'm wrong

I would agree wtih babycakes EXCEPT if your intended major is accouting, finance, stock brokerage, investing, or financial planning, you are better off at Bentley. The rankings support this too.

Bentely can be a bit more nurturing with more tutors available, better liberal arts ( in fact they have liberal arts major) and a fantastic trading room.

Also, Babson is about $6,000 more per year and has higher room and board costs too.

However, regardless of what I said above, I think that both schools are great. You should really check out the culture and facilities for both schools and see which would be a better fit for you.

Babson has a national reputation. Bentley is more of a regional school.

my focus is management for which babson is well known but bentley has much better facilities like the trading room and hightech library plus bentley offered me a half tuition scholarship , but money is not a deciding factor.

i visited both colleges and found bentley's campus more modern and bigger .

hmm , im gonna have a tough time deciding

advice is appreciated , thanx guys

Babson for entrepreneurship and international business. Bentley for accounting, finance, and a social life. I disagree with Babson having a national reputation and Bentley only having a regional one. They're both hidden gems. I live in New Jersey and tell people I got into Penn State and University of Florida, but would much rather go to Bentley. Most of them have no clue what Bentley is. When I told people I got into Babson, I got the same exact response. If you really know business, you know Babson and Bentley. If you don't know business, you probably won't know either one of them.

I'm also accepted to both. I agree with the statement that Bentley is stronger in accounting and liberal arts but I don't think Bentley is stronger in finance. I asked several competent people and they recommended me Babson. You can also search for undergraduate job profiles on their sites, or PM me and I will send you them.

DOLO2, US News, for the first time that I know of, rated Bentely above that of Babson for business. However, with that said, I don't trust the US News Rankings anyway.

In terms of finance, I am not sure that your statement about Babson being better than Bentley is true. Bentely offers several graduate majors in various aspects of finance, while Babson offers NONE that I can see. All they have is an MBA. This should give kids a LOT more finance courses and choices to choose from, not to mention give them the option to participate in a combined BS/MS program.

However, even considering what I said above, I think that both schools offer strong offerings in business and finance. If a student visits each school and finds the best fit based on culture, course offerings, major flexibility, ability to participate in combined BS/MS programs, facilities etc. a student, in my opiniom, won't go wrong attending either school.

i was also accepted to both babson and bentley...after visiting both i found bentley too have a much more modern campus with better facilities.. i then went to talk to my uncle who is a partner for a medium size mergers and aquisitions firm and he said both are well known in the business world but he feels bentley is continually getting better and will be a nationally recognized business school in a short time...he also said babson is primarily for people getting into entrepreneurship while bentley is for people who want to study all aspects of business... i for one will be attending bentley next yr

taxguy.
US News did not rank Bentley above Babson. Babson is 24th while Bentley is 42nd in US news ranking. Maybe you meant Business Week?
I also don’t trust rankings.

Let’s look at the facts.

Bentley: number of students (class of 2010)- 888 (!!!)
number of recruiting Opportunities 698 (!!!)
number of companies N/A

Babson: number of students (class of 2010)- 443 (!!!)
number of recruiting Opportunities- 897 (!!!)
number of companies 537

My friend recently asked Marty Nemko, about these schools (and not only these) and he also recommended Babson, saying that it has great reputation in finance.

I agree with you that both are great schools and I'm strongly considering both of them. It will be nice if current students of both schools participate in this thread.

I was giving some more thought to the differences between these two schools.

Bentley is a bigger school than Babson. This means there are probably more choices of courses at Bentley.

Secondly, Bentley has been trying to carve out specific niches for themselves. For example, they are one of a very few schools to offer a masters in financial planning.

Thirdly, Bentley is very good at offering a number of combined programs such as BS/MS in most business related areas or BS/MBA or MS/MBA,which results in a lot less time for these designations and, therefore, a lot less in tuition money.

Also, don't forget that Babson is about $7,000 more in total yearly costs when you factor in tuition, fees, room and board. To me this is a big deal.

In addition, check out the forums on Students Review. For some reason, Babson kids are not that happy at Babson. I don't see the same amount of negativity form Bentley kids.

Again, I am NOT saying that Bentely is better or worse than that of Babson. It just has some unique advantages. If these advantages appeal to you as a student then Bentley is the better school. If,however, you don't feel that the programs, which Bentley has or emphasizes is that beneficial to you then maybe Babson would be a better choice.

Bottom Line: Both schools need to be checked out as to offerings, curriculum, combined programs such as BS/MS opportunities, recruiting, facilities, campus culture, costs etc. They are a lot more alike than they are dissimilar in many ways.

I have to agree with taxguy, check out students review. Bentley students seem a lot happier. While Babson students even came up with a site to voice their hatred about Babson. I believe it's c r a p campus. com or something like that. Google it.

Overall Babson is a better school in terms of prestige. They say the campus is beautiful. I haven't visited though. I applied to Babson and got in. I dont know if I'm going though.

taxguy. Ok if we look at Student Review we can see that Harvard students are also not very happy with their institution. You can check it. As you said Babson students are not very happy too. Why? Because they work hard at Babson. Workload is huge. It is logical people who work hard and study much are not excited with the long hours that they spend while studying. And you can see the results of such work in the data that I provided above, look at number of opportunities and than look at the number of students.

Dani747. In my opinion the site that you just mentioned is not serious. If the guys who run it are so unhappy with the institution at which they study (and they are REALLY VERY UNHAPPY), why don’t they transfer? Ok you might say that they can’t transfer to better school because of their stats. But I think if you can’t stand school it is logical to transfer even to the less selective and less know institution. They often mention about horrible social life, so why don’t they transfer to state schools? I think that students who run this site are people who only think about social life and partying. To my mind if one wants to be a good businessman one must work hard in order to be prepared for future hardships not only in business world but also in life. Student who has gone through it will be really strong employee, entrepreneur and person.

DOLO2 I don't know why there are more negative comments on the Babson board vs. that of the Bentley board. You have to read the comments and see if there is a theme to them. I don't attend either school, so I can't comment on the rectitude of any of the comments.

Babson is the simply the better school. Also Wellesley is way nicer than Waltham.

In the end, Bentley and Babson are both good schools. It all comes down to preference. Personally I prefer Bentley if you haven't noticed, but Babson is fine too, if that's what you like. It's just not for me.

Hi Guys,

I currently attend Bentley, and I can give you some input from a Bentley student's perspective.

Basically, Bentley integrated everything while Babson is more entrepreneurial focused. Bentley offers these types of classes but at the same time integrates hands-on learning and technology. If you want a very well-rounded education with a lot of different aspects including a liberal arts curriculum (that ties in business and applies it), then Bentley is the school for you! Let me know if you have any other questions!

-Serena

Hi,

“but at the same time integrates hands-on learning and technology”

I think Babson does the same; whole curriculum is based on hands-on learning experience.
FME,IME1, IME2, IME3 represent such learning style. Plus Special programs

Bloomberg University Certification Program
Management Consulting Field Experience (MCFE)
Coaching for Leadership and Teamwork
Babson College Fund (BCF)
Accelerated Curriculum for Entrepreneurship (ACE)

From these programs only one (ACE) is related with entrepreneurship, most of the other special programs are related with finance and management. Can you please list special programs like those above (not clubs and organizations like Bentley investment group) at Bentley, so that we can compare them with Babson’s programs?
I agree that Bentley makes great enfaces on technologies and that’s a great plus but I discovered that Babson students can very easily take technology related courses at Olin College, which is one of the best school in engineering and is located walking distance from Babson.

“if you want a very well-rounded education with a lot of different aspects including a liberal arts curriculum”

As I know both Bentley and Babson offer 50% of liberal arts in their curriculum, or am I wrong?

your right
i got into both, but im going to babson to do finance and history(weird mix, but its just me).

even though i learned alot about bentley's advantage in finance(trading room),
and alot about babson in entrepenurship, i decided to go with babson, because its broad range in other fields and top notch faculty
