I was admitted to all three, and a couple of East Coast Business schools, but I boiled it down to these three and I really want to stay out West after I graduate and work for a few years in the finance industry prior to grad school. Financial Aid makes all three comparable in cost. I love the location of all three, so location is irrelevant.
A few differences to note, they all have their advantages/disadvantages:
I will be a varsity athlete at CMC, as I was recruited and have a team spot reserved for me, admitted for Financial Econ (BA); USC I am a spring admit for Marshall-BS in BusAdm (Finance), which doesn’t concern me too much as I’ll take GE’s during fall, live down there, and get involved.
UCLA-pre BusEcon so I would have to apply to major junior year
My biggest concerns are internships and job recruitment for these three schools. I know they are incredibly different, with only one being a true business school, so I’m wondering if that if that along with a BS vs a BA is super important to recruiters…
From what I have seen, CMC would be best, followed by Marshall, for West Coast IB recruitment.
Thank you, CMC has a great career advisory program, I was just concerned about the school’s recognition in the industry. I’m trying to do some research online about placement, but I’m not able to find any actual “first-hand” accounts from either a recruiter or a student perspective.
I’ll be attending all admitted students days, so hopefully, I will have a better picture by May 1st.
CMC for sure. Fantastic alumni networks, super-bright student colleagues, great great faculty.
Check out LinkedIn’s page for Claremont McKenna. You can view where alumni are working. I could find several at the top investment banking firms. If there are some companies which interest you, you could message alumni working in them and ask about their process and experiences. I don’t know how LinkedIn calculates this, but it lists for similar universities with CMC as UPenn, Princeton, UVA, Dartmouth, Georgetown, and Columbia U.
Thank you, I did check this out and you are right! It was very helpful to see where they are working and I messaged two and heard back almost immediately. It’s a great resource!
