I live in NYC, and got into some trouble at my prior top 30 liberal arts college. I need to know which is better: Nassau Community College, or Borough of Manhattan Community College. I used to live in Nassau County so I know where is it. If you know which is better, I would also like to know why one is better than the other. I did well in high school, and got into a top 30 liberal arts school, so I expect to transfer within a semester. Which school will help me transfer to better schools?

As a fellow Community College student, I am just curious about how you would transfer after just one semester? If you had some mishaps at you previous LAC, wouldn't you have to wait until you had completed at least one semester before filing an application? Otherwise, I wonder if you would have had time to reprove yourself as a student. Maybe I don't get the situation, and sorry I don't have any experience with those schools. If I were you, I would be sure that the school I picked offered the classes I needed to make progress towards my major. Some CCs have weirdly limited offerings in some areas.

what happened was I was at a liberal arts school for a month during the first semester of my college career. I got expelled for something which I feel no need to further discuss except it was not academic. I applied as a transfer student for the spring semester to 3 schools directly following. I just got rejected from one, and I spoke to an admissions officer who was part of the decision. She said that I should go to community college for a semester and apply while taking my courses. So I am trying to decide which CC to go to.

I see. That sucks. I would still say go for the school that offers the courses you need to keep your curriculum on track.

In the interest of full disclosure I will say that I am a Nassau prof. I will say we have a wonderful rep. and awesome success with transfers.

Your other choice is good too, I'm sure, but I know nothing about it.

have you checked the US news community college rankings...

dude seriously it really doesnt matter

It does matter. He wants to learn while he's at CC. Not all CCs are even worth the tuition, I have friends at CCs that say it is like high school all over again.

Just go to the CC closest to you and the one that is most convenient in terms of parking/transportation/ courses.

It doest matter. I have attended 7 different community colleges, doesnt matter they are all roughly the same except for the convenience factors. I preferred the smaller CC in the area to the larger one, and one with more parking. I hated driving and arriving 1.5 hours b4 to get a space.

Nassau Community is top 5 or so best CCs in the country.

here are some Community college rankings done by washington monthly

Nassau has a great rep! I go to Scruffolk so I’d know LOL…

You may not feel a need to discuss it further, but if it was something even remotely serious (B&E, assault, etc) you may not be able to make it into another 4 year. I know a lot are cautious as all get out of people with criminal records (short of say, underage drinking)
