Dear All,

I am planning to skip either geometry honors to get into algebra 2 honors the next year or take geometry honors and skip algebra 2 honors. I will skip these courses by taking the CTY courses.

Is it better to skip algebra 2 honors or geometry honors?

Thanks in advance

Take Geometry and skip Algebra II. Especially if your class is a more proof-based geometry class, there are a lot of good skills to be learned in geometry. People have a tendency to think either more algebraically or more geometrically. As an algebraically-minded person, I had to “learn” to think geometrically. Algebra II is pretty straightforward. I also know a few students that took geometry and self-taught algebra II and they are fine.

However, I would like to note, that only do this if you have access to upper-level classes and if you have scheduled out the next few years and determined that you will not be taking a math course that is a lot of work when you will not have time for it.

This has been said about my D, like you she prefers Algebra. I wonder what this means for pursuing math and science later on…does an ability in/preference for one or the other indicate future success in certain majors, occupations or types of math?
