Guys.. i need help on this i can't make up a clear winner in this one. I like both colleges unc and william and mary. I just need some opinions to make some decisions.

bump.........................

unc would be the obvious choice for me.

great social scene. for being such a good school.

William & Mary if you're interested in colonial history. If not, then I would choose UNC. I haven't been to their campus, but I doubt that it's more boring than Willamsburg. But really, I would choose the cheaper school since they're both very good

W&M has the edge in the liberal arts humanities (English, History, Philosophy, etc.)

Obvious difference in size will significantly impact the environment and different folks will differ on what they enjoy. Social and athletic life much stronger at U North Carolina although most W&M students are probably better “fits” in Williamsburg and greatly enjoy their time there.

Both have large IS student populations although this is more pronounced at U North Carolina (18% OOS vs 33% at W&M). But IMO, other than being in the same geographic area in bordering states, I think that these schools differ quite a bit in their feel. U North Carolina is far more like U Virginia while W&M is far more like Wake Forest.

One major similarity between U North Carolina and W&M is their commitment to classroom teaching excellence. Unlike some of their (more loudly trumpeted on CC) public school peers, these campuses are not dominated by graduate students and this has positive implications for the undergraduate academic experience.

thanks guys that helped. any more.. bump..

William & Mary

Sblogblah, I thought you were a student at Chapel Hill? You thinking of transferring?

^you might've misunderstood me. I thought you meant when you asked whether you are a student. is whether you are a grown-up adult or a student- in any level. I'm a student who will probably attend william and mary or chapel hill- will get accepted by both, but i know many people who attend both of the colleges

A factor to consider is that UNC has a female/male imbalance=59% female/ 41% male. In my opinion, W&M is slightly more athletically oriented (similiar to WFU) than UNC, although UNC has more "big-time" athletic programs. My impression is that William & Mary is a smaller version of the Univ. of Virginia in the sense of preppiness, while UNC-Chapel Hill is more like a typical state school environment.

UNC is a great school with big-time sports programs and a pretty large campus.

WM is a great school that is somewhat smaller and less well-known as far as athletics are concerned.

Just depends on what kind of atmosphere you are looking for.

coldwind you are right, but william and mary also has a female/male imbalance same ratios too. thanks for the help guys, lets keep it going

William and Mary was made famous a few years ago for its struggle with M/F imbalance and its lower admissions standards for males that resulted.

bump.................

UNC is more prestigious. Id rather go there in a heart beat.

William and Mary if you want more interaction with professors.

Do you love basketball? If not, W&M.

UNC is one of the best for parties, sports, and great college town. W&M has a much stronger student body and academic experience for the intellectually minded. Prestige is much higher at W&M. Its hard to exclusive when there are 20,000 of you.

Both are strong in their own way. W&M more like Brown and Haverford. UNC is an east coast UCLA.

I wanted to bring this back up, since i want to get more in depth answers i now have more information about exactly what i want to do. -

I will major in Business but take medical school prerequisites

I want to excel with at least a 3.6+ GPA to get into Med school/MBA or just Med School and do MBA later.

I love basketball, favorite sport.

I love the Wake forest environment- campus wise w/ the sports and classes- not the city, too bad it is private and hard undergrad.

I want professor interactions.

I like the school to be more undergraduate focus.

The school with higher Medical school placement rates.

I know UNC is better for Business, but it has more prerequisites to complete w/ my premed track and business w/ harder admission to major in.

William and Mary has far less distractions

William and Mary is getting a new Business and science buildings- state of the art

Tuition doesn’t matter to me- w/ UNC and William and Mary- they have good Fin. Aid

UNC has a Medical School

William and Mary liberal arts small school

UNC has a research triangle

Overall after reading just a few of my thoughts, what do you think I just cannot decide which school is better for me. For some it might be a easy choice, but in my case i don’t think so.
