Which is Harder Act or Sat?

Hi guys, im a noob at this... and i was wondering if the act or sat was harder?
and which one should i study more on...

i have a question...
i want to read books with sat words and ones that would help me in critical reading...
do u any book suggestions thanks

There's no straight forward answer to this. Some people do better on one, some better on the other. For comparison purposes, the SAT penalizes guessing, while the ACT does not. However, ACT does test science, which some people say is confusing. I personally was more rushed on the math part of the ACT too. Anyway, I ended up with a 2120 on the SAT and a 34 on the ACT.

SAT for sure. SAT penalizes guessing and wrong answers, it also stresses more on vocabulary. The ACT Science is actually very easy. All you do is analyze data like graphs and charts and be able to infer what would happen next. You don't really need to know any scientific facts, just know how to read and analyze science labs anda information.

SAT hands down

the ACT is all about reading the question and finding the right answer (NO TRICK QUESTIONS!! :D ) in addition to timing.

depends on the person. the ACT has easier, more straightforward questions, but the timing will KILL you.
for me the SAT was easier.

ACT easier FOSHO :)

Well I thought the ACT seemed easier but I did MUCH better on the SAT. Funny how that works out.

I find the ACT to be a millions times easier. It depends on the person though. I heard most GATE-identified students prefer the SAT.

And I prefered the ACT ;)
CC has a clear SAT majority, because it's more popular on the West and East coasts, where most of this forum's users live.

They're different tests, as stated. I had tons of time on the SAT, and ended up with a 1950 (well, some of that might have been the Vicodin, but that's another story). ACT wise, two 32s (34 superscore), with zero and 2 practice tests' preparation, respectively.

I will be a junior next year and I still have a month left in summer. I started studying for the PSAT and the SAT last week. Would people recommend I switch over to the ACT?

I say you should stick with the SAT. I honestly dont know much about the ACT other than it supposedly has a little more straight-forward questions so i cant talk about that. But i think i have some tips for the SAT.
First, the PSAT most likely will not reflect your SAT scores, mine didnt at all anyway. so dont get scared too much if u do shaky on that.
I got a total 2190 on SAT - CR:730 M:680 W:780
For CR you have to know a lot of vocabulary and also be able to do a lot of "answer the questions based on the reading passage". for the vocab i know there are books like "Hot Words for the SAT's" that work well for studying. also, most of the questions have the definition of the answer IN the question.
as far as reading, i got one of those big books that has sample tests. i just kept doing the sections until i got used to it and i actually improved a good amount.
For math they have algebra, geometry, and weird random things. they give u all the formulas u need so dont think u have to memorize too much. i just kind of did a bunch of practice questions from the practice test book and such. it helped me and thats definitely my weak area.
Writing i found Extremely easy. although some of my friends really sucked at it so maybe i shouldnt say that. basically they have sentences with mistakes in them and u have to pick the right way to say it. usually if u dont think too much into it, its the simplest sounding answer. whispering the sentence to myself helped cause u could hear where the mistake is if maybe you werent sure.
i hope that helped. im new to this site but thats my little input of "wisdom" < (i hope lol)

try the ACT in february. just self study for that...its possible. so take the ACT in feb, see how you do. if you are lucky and really prepared, you'll do so well on that test and then you wont have to bother with the SATs at all! now that would be awesome...and then you can rub it in your friends' faces that you dont have to take the horrible SATs :)

ACT is much easier, particularly math. ACT math questions are simple and basic.

Well now I have two questions. Why do so many ppl take the SAT if the ACT is a little bit easier? And do colleges weigh the ACT or SAT in different ways? Is it more prestigious to take the SAT or ACT? Would it help much if I got good scores on both and sent both my ACT and SAT in a college app.

For books here are some off the top of my head:

Frankestein
Wuthering Heights
Tales by Edgar Allen Poe

and some other ones I can't think of

thanks for the help...so i have a situation question>>>if you did not know an answer to a question, would you guess or would you leave it blank on the SAT?

Links what are you referring to? And does anyone know whether colleges accept both the ACT and the SAT and the SAT II.

The SAT is MUCH harder.

I'm in GATE. I prefer the ACT. I've taken practice ACTs before.

I scored a 27 on a practice ACT and a 1640 on the actual SAT.

My school promotes the SAT much more.

In the SAT, you would leave the question blank, if you have no clue what the answer is. If you study, you should be fine. I didn't study for the SAT, but I'm studying for the ACT.

SAT is harder simply because it actually forces one to think. The ACT is a joke.

The answer is neither test is harder than the other. They are simply different types of tests. Some of the questions on the SAT are designed to attempt to trick you. The questions on the ACT are more straight forward. The SAT penalizes you for wrong answers, the ACT doesn't. The ACT has strict time constraints, the SAT is more generous with time. The ACT tests math at a higher level than the SAT and it also tests science reasoning, which the SAT doesn't test at all. The SAT emphasizes vocabulary, whereas the ACT emphasizes grammar and usage. Most colleges superscore the SAT, but not the ACT. In short, it depends on which test works for you. If you look at the score distribution for both tests, you'll note that both are classic bell curves as, statistically, they should be. Very few people fall into the lower end of the curve, fewer still fall into the higher end of the curve, and most are somewhere in the middle. The vast majority of students who take both the SAT and the ACT score roughly about the same on both tests. A minority of students, however, do significantly better on one test than the other. The only way to know is to take both, and since the ACT allows you to choose which scores to report to colleges (the SAT doesn't offer this option), you have nothing to lose by taking the ACT. By the way, one BIG advantage that the ACT has over the SAT is that many colleges will accept the ACT instead of the SAT I AND the SAT II subject tests (for the colleges that recommend or require them).
