I was just wondering which type of exam matters more in a college's decision of whether to accept you.

I heard that APs are mainly taken just for credit and that a low score won't hurt your admission chances, you just won't be able to bypass a low-level class.

that's pretty much true. SAT II are used more for admission, and AP more for placement, BUT if colleges see high grades in AP classes and then low AP scores, they'll suspect grade inflation, and that will discredit your grades a lot. AP's can also be used for admission though if you get a beast award (like National AP Scholar) because like nobody gets that **** by the end of junior year. having a national award like that looks really good on college apps

^if they suck, or my favorite, if you're a "bad test taker" If they're good, report them, but it's not gonna matter because no one judges schools based on admitted students AP scores(like they do for SAT)

The only true benefit I see would be to prove you self studied something, but if we're talking HYP, that's typical. If we're talking good state school and you have a few 5s, you're probably in anyway, hence the degree of importance to college admissions very, very, very little

I took the AP Calc AB exam this year, and am taking SAT IIs in June. Right now I'm not signed up for the Math II exam because I figured I'd take three others and then colleges could see how mathematical I was with my Calc AP score. Is this a wise strategy?

Here's my fairly related question.

Simple answer: no. The Calc exam and the math II exam test TOTALLY different things, not to mention that a five in calc could mean like a 60% or so, while a high score in math means you really DID do well.
So take the math II in june.

What if you self-studied most of the classes? Or took the honors class and then the exam? Will that help almost as much as taking the honors class?
