Considering that I am an International Transfer student, what are your views with respect to Academics and Professional Career.
What kind of professional career were you expecting? Not one in the US defense industry.
I am expecting a career in Aviation Industry. Commercial side.
Purdue is top notch for aerospace engineering and Maryland isn’t very far behind. You would have good career opportunities at either place. Embry-Riddle is a different type of animal - I would only recommend going there if you are 100% committed to a career in aviation (and even then, I’d probably still choose Purdue if given the option).
Actually, that’s the dilemma I am going through. I am 100 % committed to my chosen major, hence, I feel like going to Embry. But seeing the rankings Purdue stands top followed by UMD. So I see the other stuff like Daytona Beach is a cheaper place. Also, I can be well suited for that kind of place in terms of weather, location and size. But what really matters is the significance of attending either of the three. I mean which school will help me to get into Top Aeronautical companies, which one will give professional skills, which one give rigorous course structure with variety of minors and which one will give me best study abroad programs.
What’s the cost difference? Based on my experience in the industry, I think employers will be more impressed with an aerospace degree from Purdue or Maryland than Embry-Riddle, but I believe Embry-Riddle has lower admissions standards, and therefore a higher number of less than impressive graduates in the industry than the top ranked aerospace engineering schools. My view could be biased based on the individuals I worked with though.
As an International Student, I don’t see an appreciable difference in cost between either of the universities. Also, I wanted to bring in the consideration that I want to do Masters too. So which school will support me better ?
If you are thinking of going in the direction of master’s and then maybe a PhD, I think that should push you even harder in the direction of Purdue and Maryland. They are more academically oriented than Embry-Riddle - which is closer to an aviation technical school.
Embry-Riddle is an excellent school for Aerospace Engineering. It is definitely not an “aviation technical school”…
Either school would make a great choice for undergrad. It really comes down to affordability and fit!
