I’m going to take one of these by themselves and the other two together. So I’m wondering which is the hardest one so I can take that one by itself, and the two easier AP’s together. Any advice would be super helpful.
It depends on the students abilities, but IMO, AP Lang is harder than APCSP and APES combined.
Talk to students who have taken those classes as well as the teachers and guidance counselor to get a sense of the workload. We have a great thread going on the Parents Forum that turned into a discussion regarding how much homework various AP classes have in each posters school, and it varies considerably.
FWIW, DD is taking APCSP right now. She has prior programming experience and is finding it easy. Even so, she still has almost an hour of homework a night. (To me they look like fun brainteaser-type things, but then again, I’m not the one who has to get a computer to solve the problems.) I can easily see that someone without programming experience could find the workload a bit more challenging and homework might take that person longer.
AP language had a ton of work for my daughter but as stated above, talk to other students at your school as it varies greatly!
I’ve taken Lang and have had friends take APES, I’d recommend taking APES over Lang. The amount of work (atleast in my school) for Lang compared to APES was insanely higher. I can’t really speak about APCSP though, not my area. I’d still probably take APES and CSP over Lang though. Ask some upperclassmen at your school about their experiences too though, the difficulty of the class differs depending on the teacher, curriculum, tests, and school itself.
