Which is the Lower Limit of terribleness of professors of Quantitative Subjects?

How bad can a Math/Physics/economics/Accounting professor be before they are completely and utterly worthless and going to class is a complete and utter waste of time? High-GPA students seem to always purport to view professors favorably, is this because they feel a certain kinship with the professor due to the professor having a Strong GPA, and thus similar priorities and world-view?

Remember especially that in Asia, and probably India, the teachers and professors are just sort of 'there' and aren't expected to teach because Conceptual Learning hasn't caught on there (perhaps this is why we are still #1 Economically?). Students are simply expected to Memorize everything painstakingly at home for hours upon hours each day, and going to class is pretty much just a formality. Is the Eastern approach more realistic? Or are they stuck in the pedagogical past in their romanticization of Rote Memorization? Either way, that's the approach that foreign professors bring to the table when they teach in the U.S. Is it an acceptable approach to you?

......I'm wondering if I'll even get a straight answer here or if groupthink might play a role in your answers? The fact is, the people who do the most complaining about professors are generally low-IQ, low-GPA students. Many of you understand this and will sneer at negative reviews on ratemyprofessors. High-IQ, high-GPA students will occasionally drop a complaint here and there but it's quite rare. When they do, it carries a lot of weight because of their presumed intelligence, and the professor usually ends up getting Fired as a result, especially if the student complaining has an undergraduate GPA that is higher than that of the professor. And of course, as we all know, all professors are treated with absolute reverence by low-IQ, high-GPA students because they spend so much time bonding together in Office Hours, not to mention said students' absolute and undying adoration, veneration, and idolization of, and infatuation with, any and all authority figures.

Man, you must have some sort of hard on for GPAs because it seems like every post I see of yours is about GPAs

What do you expect? GPA is King. Try getting paid $200,000 plus bonus at a Bulge Bracket with under a 3.7. Not gonna happen. Ever. Don’t be Bitter, just do your best to Sell yourself.

The first word in the thread title is supposed to be ‘what’… :|

“When they do, it carries a lot of weight because of their presumed intelligence, and the professor usually ends up getting Fired as a result, especially if the student complaining has an undergraduate GPA that is higher than that of the professor”

I don’t understand what that means. How can the student have a higher GPA than the professor’s.

The student’s current GPA is higher than the GPA that the professor graduated with. Make sense? Good.

Where did you get this information from?

lol. within your bull are some pretty valid comments. ratemyprofessors disproportionally represents weaker students from my school.

GPA inflation has occurred, so adjustments need to be made before any useful comparisons are made. More needs to be adjusted too if other factors come into play like a different university or a different major.

Ordinary personal experience and high IQ allows one to make tons of inferences that would never occur to the typical Memorizer because they aren’t conclusions that one can draw through synthesis of Memorized information.

“within your bull are some pretty valid comments.”

proportion of bull>proportion of valid arguments

OP sounds like…kind of an arrogant jerk.

Assuming that you’re a girl, that may as well be a compliment.

how…?

Because I’m not being an arrogant jerk at all. As far as I can tell, “arrogant” and “jerk” are code words for “guy who gets me hot and bothered”. The implication of calling someone arrogant is that because they are so awesome, that is the worst thing that you could come up with to “insult” them. If you were out to express your disapproval with me, there are a hundred actual insults you could hurl my way.

LOLL, yeah, you’re really getting me SO hot & bothered. i guess if you’re that delusional it really would be a compliment.

p.s. trust me, i could, i would, but that would probably get me banned ;)

I think the fact that you replied at all at this point speaks for itself. In the interest of retaining our respective memberships to this site, I encourage you to say what you want to say via PM, and be sure to include a picture of yourself to give your remarks context.

alright then.

i’m posting to up my post count, obvii. that, & you’re slightly amusing, at this point. PM…eh, i won’t bother.

He’s clearly a ■■■■■. Don’t be so offended.

I suppose you’re posting to get your post count up enough so that you can PM me?

um, no…

idk, tcbh, i think he’s just…naturally, like that.

I wouldn’t waste your time. WB has a thing for taxguy.
