Which is the quietest private dorm?

Being from New York, I am considering very strongly a private dorm. However, I am not much of a party person and I know the private dorms have a reputation of being huge party dorms.

I was curious which of the private dorms are the quietest? Langdon?

Princeton House

I'm not too familar with the Princeton House... Is it mostly out-of-state such as the other private dorms?

Actually I really liked the Highlander. When I lived there it was a chilled place coz it smaller than all the other dorms and you get your own apartment with a kitchen and bathroom. And its pretty quiet most of the time.

Don't waste your money on a private dorm. The public dorms can be anything you want them to be. It really is too bad that so many people are concerned about them.

For quiet, choose a lakeshore dorm. Slichter was nice for me, and it's not terribly far from classes. I'm quite sure a private dorm won't be any better.

It is a zoo. Before living there I never knew that there were places where drunken frat boys wandered around ****ing on random dormitory doors at 2 am - not just once, but as an ongoing pattern of behavior. At the time I lived there there was no order at all, the food was terrible (soggy, half inch of standing oil on top of everything no matter what dish it was), fire alarms pulled on the hour during finals and midterm weeks, girls clogging the toilets with tampons, washcloths, and assorted toiletries on a regular basis, constant screaming throughout the night, beer/pizza vomit and excrement in the stairwells two or three times a month, and vandalism repair costs divided equally between all tenants on an affected floor (apparently it costs $600 to re-attach a smashed-off elevator floor key). There was a change in management the year after I left so it may be better now, but I wouldn't wish the environment I lived in on any serious student.

The company that owns the Langdon also owns the Highlander and Statesider. For serious study Liz Waters might be a good dorm. There is also one near the lake that might be good (I forget the name). It looks like a castle and contains an interior courtyard. Anyway, all the students there agree not to drink or use drugs, and this stipulation selects for quieter students.

In addition, you might consider living on your own. It is often cheaper and may well be more enjoyable.

I haven't heard much about Schlicter. Are the rooms large/small, old/new, etc? Thanks!

Slichter's rooms are pretty large...much bigger than the SE dorms. They are not new, but they are kept in terrific condition because they are fully cleaned, repaired, and sometimes repainted each summer. Nearly everyone has a great experience there.

Cool, thanks for the info. allstar! I will be staying there this summer and all that I figured out so far was that they were on a Lake (Mendota, I think?).

I hope I didn't convey that Slichter was the only dorm that was properly cleaned and repaired. That would be untrue. All dorms are kept up, and so the age of the dorm matters little.
