If you are out of state and need financial aid, cross all the UCs and CSUs off your list.
i am from California, are these colleges top 10 for acting
There’s a whole forum devoted to this topic:
Hollywood Reporter’s Top BFA Programs - College Majors / Theater/Drama Majors - College Confidential Forums
The internet is a great tool to do these types of searches. Don’t trust just random people (sorry @skieurope, not calling you random), for lists like this.
This is not what your looking for but contact them or similar for a list
Many of those schools are very hard to get into, and don’t have BFA acting programs anyway. How soon will you be applying to college?
Take Stanford and Berkeley off your list and add Southern Oregon University. It’s just over the CA/OR border in Ashland, and it costs less than a UC with the WUE reciprocity discount.
U of Utah is another WUE school with excellent BFA programs.
If you want a BFA program, some schools on your list do not offer such a degree program.
Further, besides “top acting program,” it is important to look at the academic criteria for admissions and you don’t indicate your academic profile and so just because a school offers the program or major you want, it still has to be within academic reach. For instance, USC has a great program in your field, but are you academically competitive for this highly selective university? All those factors must be weighed.
Also, is it essential that you stay in CA? There are a finite number of schools that offer BFA in Acting degrees and by limiting your search to JUST one state, you are, well, limiting the options by a lot.
Did you know that UCSB has a BFA Theater program that you enter in sophomore year?
Also look at Cal State Fullerton.
Also look at Chapman University.
Is there a reason why you are limiting yourself to california? BFA acting programs are extremely competitive and casting a wide net is extremely important.
A better forum on College Confidential for you is the Theater/Drama Majors Forum:
Hope that helps.
Not far from CA would be Arizona State and University of Arizona.
