<p>I don't understand the various posts here which say that "Gourman tends to underestimate LACs." The fact is that Gourman doesn't include LACs at all!!! (Dartmouth is considered a university.) These lists are useless to students trying to consider LACs.</p>

<p>Some small schools make it into the Gourman Rankings. Brandeis, Bryn Mawr, Caltech, Catholic U, Claremont McKenna, Polytechnic U, Pomona, Rice, Swarthmore, Williams. The criteria used in Gourman's formulas tend to favor schools with large research programs. There is another rankings book called Rugg's Recommendations that treats LACs more favorably.</p>

<p>What are the rankings for Mathematics and Applied Mathematics?</p>

<p>I have a hard time believing that UC Riverside, NYU and Iowa St would be better for Biochem than Dartmouth, Brown, Stanford, not to mention more specialized schools (JHU, RPI, Cal Tech). What are these Gourman reports based on?</p>
