There are distinctions among equally strong prong programs. For example, at the graduation ceremony for Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell, the Director explained what made the Cornell program different from other top-10 programs.

First, it is an Electrical AND Computer Engineering program. Evidently, there are not too many programs that combine the two majors.

Second, it is more theoretical than some other programs ("taught at a higher level"). Some other programs focus on one or two years into the future. They carry on a lot of applied research due to funding they have from industry. The Cornell ECE program is focused on five or ten years into the future.

Third, the Cornell ECE program has a reputation for its intensity. Students leave with a serious work ethic. Graduate programs and employers supposedly like this about Cornell ECE grads.

The Cornell ECE program was wonderful (and arduous). I recommend it.

One more thing that was said at the Cornell ECE graduation ceremony...

The ECE program at Cornell is designed to nurture the spirit of creativity and invention ("thinking outside the box"). Brainstorming and new ideas, crazy ideas are welcomed. There is a huge building at Cornell (Rhodes Hall) that is a "think tank". Smart professors from math, comp sci, engineering, physics, etc intermingle and "cross-fertilize".

Graduation is a joyous, happy, proud occasion. Those of you who are at the beginning of the search process, it is something to look forward to no matter where you decide to go. Everybody loves their college at graduation time, I think.

In terms of engineering program size, Cornell is 2.5 times bigger than the next largest Ivy, Columbia. Cornell is 10 times larger than Dartmouth's engineering program and 26 times larger than Harvard's. Size has some bearing on the nature of an engineering program.

number of engineering bachelors graduates in 2004

Cornell 632

Cornell also has the largest computer science program in the Ivy League.

number of comp sci bachelors 2004

Cornell 128
Columbia 101
Harvard 54

Princeton doesn't seem to have any Comp Sci graduates, although they supposedly offer a bachelors degree in comp sci. Anybody know why this is? Is computer science perhaps part of computer engineering at Princeton?

Can anybody please post the Gourman rankings for Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering? :)

Princeton comp sci (c/o 2005):

AB - 9 degrees
BSE - 28 degrees

Does the Gourman Report have rankings for Overall Business, or just specific subjects? I'm interested in overall and management. And if they have any sport management rankings i'd be interested because there are none anywhere to be found.

U Penn (Wharton) : Finance.

Look @ Who's #2 to Wharton for Finance, Accounting, and Marketing!!!

A2Wolves6-
I will check who is #2 in the undergrad business areas. It might be Cornell, but I think Cornell has only a general business major. Brown has "business economics". It is possible that Wharton is the only Ivy with separate majors for accounting, finance, marketing. Hence, it might be the only Ivy named in Gourman. But I will check.

In 2004, Wharton had 612 grads in business, Cornell had 435, Brown had 76.

2 to Wharton in finance is Stern. Wharton accounting is #3 in the country and after that it's Michigan. #2 to Wharton in marketing is Michigan. :D

As far as I know Wharton's is the only ivy with separate majors for accounting, finance etc and an established undergraduate business school.
