<p>Seems to me that, according to the NRC, Yale and Princeton hold no discernable advantage in the humanities over Harvard. Yale and Princeton are better than Harvard in some humanities (i.e. French), but Harvard is better than Yale and Princeton in other humanities (i.e. Classics, Religion)</p>

<p>Cornell is the only Ivy with many of those programs like the tech ones. It isn’t difficult to be the best when there is no competition.</p>
<p>Regardless, Cornell is a very strong univeristy that is tops in many academic disciplines.</p>

<p>Andy, Penn is not that strong in PS. According to the USNWR it is ranked #29. MIT is tied with Columbia at #10.</p>

<p>^^^Alexander, as im sure you know there is more to good colleges than USNWR rankings. there are plenty of people with more authority on the subject than any of us here that would disagree with ranking MIT higher than Penn for poli sci. i once listened to a stanford professor of poli sci that praised penn’s dept and faculty (always stating that stanford’s was superior to it but still). in any case, those rankings are a bit old and penn’s poli sci has much improved in the last years. </p>
<p>id say HYP closely followed by Penn and Columbia for poli sci
(that or i made the worst mistake ever choosing penn over stanford for poli sci/ir)</p>
<p>cornell for architecture/engineering/hotel and their other weird programs</p>
<p>penn the absolute best for business and good for econ/history/languages/humanities/IR …</p>
<p>harvard for everything except engineering</p>
<p>yale/princeton good all around (not sure about yale engineering)</p>
<p>i have no idea what dartmouth or brown are good at, and am obviously a bit biased toward penn and harvard</p>

<p>Brown and Dartmouth are among the best Ivies. The Gourman Report criteria favor research universities and underestimate the quality of LACs. Brown and Dartmouth are somewhat more like LACs with a dominant undergrad focus. You just have to keep this in mind when you read the Gourman rankings.</p>
