I heard Colombia, Northeastern, Missouri, Kansas, North Carolina, Nebraska, Ohio State are quite good? Any disagreement? Or additional schools that are worth looking into? Thanks guys!

Add Syracuse to the list.

University of Florida and University of Maryland - College Park.

Ohio University in Athens, Ohio (not to be confused with Ohio State)
Indiana University
Northwestern
Syracuse (at least it used to be)
Univ. of Maryland
University of Missouri

Columbia (not Colombia) has only a master’s program.

Top 3:

Mizzou
Syracuse
Northwestern

It’s most definitely the following:

Northwestern

Mizzou

Syracuse / UNC-Chapel Hill (Tie)

Ummm theres a wide margin between Syracuse and UNC with Syracuse being ranked higher. But nonetheless UNC is good too.

Here’s the top 20 list from the Princeton Review’s “The Best 366 Colleges, 2008 Edition.” They’re not in any particular order other than alphabetical.

American University
Boston University

Indiana University at Bloomington
Loyola University-New Orleans
Middle Tennessee State University
Northwestern University
Ohio University-Athens
Pennsylvania State University
Samford University

The University of Texas at Austin
University of Wisconsin-Madison

Keep in mind, though, that not all of these schools offer journalism as a four-year program. UW Madison, for example, has a great journalism program, but you don’t start it until your junior year.

Syracuse has a really great program, but it’s located in a relatively small city, so internships and other such opportunities are somewhat limited.

Syracuse offers a ton of internships-mostly in New York City. Heck, a few years ago there was even a freshman at Syracuse who had his own radio bit on ESPN. He was responsible for the famous interview with Terrell Owens that got him cut from the Eagles.

Indiana University has a phenomenal journalism school and one of the best college papers in the country.

Syracuse has one of the best programs in the country. It is super competitive and you get amazing internships. I am in Newhouse right now and can honestly say that the experience is like no other (at least compared to what my friends have said).

University of Minnesota - Twin Cites
[School of Journalism & Mass Communication : University of Minnesota](http://sjmc.umn.edu/)

Is becoming almost as competitive as their Carlson School of Management. As a freshman you will be Pre-Journalism, complete some gateway classes, then apply for the major. They also have different sub-categories of Journalism so you can further personalize your major to whatever your interests are in the area of Journalism or Mass Communications. My daughter is a junior in the Strat/Comm/Advertising Creative track and loves it. [Degree Programs : Journalism & Mass Communication : U of M](http://sjmc.umn.edu/ugrad/admitted.html)

The school(UMN) is amazing too on every level- It is located in a rare economically healthy metropolitan city with a young energetic vibe. Despite being a metro campus, the U is self contained in a true campus with only one building not owned by the U. It is huge, so it offers every possible opportunity to it’s students; yet it “feels” like a small school as far as the personal attention goes.

Check it out.

Florida, Maryland, Syracuse, Indiana and UNC at chapel hill all have really great journalism programs. However, Northwestern and Missouri are usually considered the best.

Does anyone know how the Journalism school at Washington State is? My son has possible interest in their Broadcast Production track

Is the UNC’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication famous for broadcast journalism? I applied there…

I’ve heard very good things about Washington States journalism school, and my daughter has been accepted to WSU and their honors college, but she is choosing ASU’s Walter Cronkite School and we have been very impressed with their program so far.

We’ve toured Syracuse, USC and NYU and ASU’s Cronkite school beat them all hands down. The facility is brand new and state of the art, their students have won a ton of journalism awards, and the faculty is amazing. In addition, they are one of only two schools (Northwestern is the other) that offer the BAMC program - combined bachelors and masters degree program through a collaboration with the Barrett Honors college.

This week we attended an information session at the campus that was specifically for incoming freshmen interested in the BAMC journalism program. The information session was top notch, we heard from the Dean of the Cronkite and the Dean of Barrett, they had a tour for the students, and then a question and answer session with the Dean and various other administrators, and a presentation by Aaron Brown - a former CNN anchor and current professor. We stayed for the Monday night guest speaker - Brian Storm of mediastorm.com (they have a different guest speaker each Monday evening). All in all, a great experience and we are sold on the school (as were most of the people who attended the info session).
