I’m an incoming international direct admit freshman to the Kelley School of Business. I was just wondering which language is best to study that will help me most in the business world.
Do you know any languages now other than English? Mandarin Chinese might be a good option.
Mandarin Chinese is incredibly difficult though.
The US is desperately looking for Arabic, Urdu, and Turkish speakers. Of those Turkish is the easiest, but they’re still very very difficult.
The easiest language to learn for a native speaker of English is Italian. Next is French (especially if your business deals with Canada, IE., Target, it can be a smarter move than Italian. Also good if you’re going to work in spirits.) Next is Spanish.
@iubaccounting I know telugu, which is an Indian language but thats all
Also just so you know, there are other ways to fulfill the world language/culture requirement than taking a language
IU has a good Chinese program, and a whole lot of the students are Kelley students.
However, the most important thing about learning a language is to pick one for which you are interested in the language and culture. If you aren’t into Chinese language or culture, learning it would be hell.
