Hey guys, I'll be attending UVA next year and was wondering if you could help me decide what language to take. I've taken 5 years of German in school and am considering taking either that or Farsi. I plan on studying either medicine, business, or law so if my career path affects which language I should take please indicate how so.
Thanks in advance!

Have you taken some kind of placement test for German? You might not even have to take a language.

With five years of high school German, you are very likely either to place out of the language requirement entirely, or just have to take a semester. Take the placement test and see where you stand.

If your concern is really to get fluent in a language, rather than merely to fulfill UVA’s language requirement, then you will need to go beyond the two years, which only gets you to an intermediate level. You can do that by taking higher-level courses or by studying abroad.

Does UVA even offer Farsi?
