Which languages can you speak, are learning, and want to learn?

Speak: English
Hate Learning: French
Wouldn’t Mind Learning: Spanish, because I imitate people with accents very well.

Speak: Tagalog, Ilocano, English
Learning: Mandarin Chinese, Japanese
Want to learn: Spanish, Cantonese, Korean, Arabic

Speak: English, German
Learning: German (I’m not quite fluent)
Want to Learn: I could write a book.

Korean, Japanese and Russian are all just about as difficult as Chinese (especially Russian), aren’t they? (In different ways, obviously, but still pretty difficult…)

Speak: English; accented, limited-vocabulary Cantonese, Mandarin and French.
Learning: French, Spanish and German (and I guess you could say I’m learning Chinese too- I have a tutor). (I don’t have enough Spanish or German to say I ‘speak’ them…)
Used to learn and want to pick up again: Japanese and Latin.
Want to learn (in no particular order): Russian, Sanskrit, Arabic [these are the most difficult of the ones I want to learn, so I’ll probably end up only doing one or two of them], Portuguese, Italian [these two after I get good at Spanish], every other existing language plzthx.

Speak (and fluent in): English, Mandarin Chinese, French, Spanish
Learning: German and just starting Italian
Want to learn: Portuguese, Japanese, and Dutch

Speak: English, Mandarin Chinese
Learning: French
Want to Learn: Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic

So many people here are interested in Chinese/Arabic…interesting. Movies are a great way to learn another language - that’s how I learnt to speak Hindi fluently. How similar are Italian and Spanish?

^ Not very, but they’re more similar than each is to English.

Add Finnish to my “kind of learned when I was 12 or 13 and obsessed with Finnish bands and want to learn properly at some point” list. This song from back then just came up on my iTunes.

^ lemme guess The Rasmus?

^ I was going to say that was scary, but then I remembered our mutual friend.

Speak: English
Learning: Hawaiian
Want to Learn: Mandarin

Of course, there are many languages I would like to learn if I could, but it’s impractical to learn them all. Spanish, French, Japanese, Latin, Greek.

And then there are the constructed languages. Quenya, Sindarin, Na’vi.

^ I started learning Quenya a looong time ago. I gave up after about a year.

Speak: English
Learning: Spanish, and have been for 6+ years
Want to learn: Chinese, Farsi, and Hindi. I want to know all of the world’s most popular languages so I can talk to anyone.

Yeah, but Chinese with their tones (not to mention extensive character system … ) is a monster next to the other ones (I suppose Japanese can be considered pretty hard too, then, with their kanji, but it’s not the same level of difficulty). I don’t know much about Russian, hence why it would interesting to learn more about it. I just know that the grammar is super messy since language evolved without there being a formal alphabet.

^ I think that kanji isn’t that hard.

I’m learning Japanese kanji, so there aren’t as many kanji… but I like learning Kanji :stuck_out_tongue: I learned about 700 in the past year.

Speak fluently: English, Korean
Learning: Latin, Spanish, Java
Used to learn: Chinese
Want to learn: Python, C++, Pascal, C#, Hebrew

I can speak English.
I am learning Spanish.
I want to learn Italian and Irish Gaelic.

@Chillaxin why Farsi? Why not Arabic which is more popular? I learnt a couple of Cantonese phrases a couple of days ago! Lol including “hot guy” “hot girl”

What are Quenya and Sindarin btw?

Speak: English
Learning: French, Java
Want to Learn: Turkish (which I’ll be studying for 6 weeks this summer in Turkey), Arabic, maybe Mandarin.

^^Someone hasn’t watched enough LOTR. Quenya and Sindarin are Elvish languages constructed by JRR Tolkien. Quenya is, like, fancier.

My sister knows a little bit of Evish, because she’s a giant nerd. I can just tell her to sit down and go faster and stuff like that. (Noro Lim!)
