Which laptop would you choose between these 2 for a Chemical Engineering student?

Ideal Laptop:

  • Portable (I commute to school)
  • Sufficient Storage for an Engr student
  • will last 2-3 years
  • I’m not a gamer

Cons: Estimated $100-$200 in apps and software, Windows is preferred for engineering.

Personally, I like Windows better, and the X1 has a beautiful design. But I feel like the MacBook would probably last longer. Even though i fear using both Windows and MacOS will be a hassle, or at least annoying.

Which Laptop would you go for? or do you have any other device in mind that you own or have heard about?

Please write what laptop do you own or are planning on buying

I’m a sophemore btw

I would get something less expensive then either of your options. Laptops for most college students don’t need to be high end at all. The unfortunate thing about laptops is that they are easy to break, and easy to steal. Nearly any laptop should last you 2-3 years, but you can get a <$600 laptop that will meet all your needs. Seriously, save your money for more important things.

I don’t own either of these, but when I bought my most recent laptop, my research suggested that a Lenovo or a ASUS were good options for reliability at a reasonable cost. I generally look for one on Amazon with very good reviews.

I just purchased a Toshiba Satellite L875D-S7332 from Office Depot for $399… awesome deal!!!

I would probably go for something cheaper as well, but between those two I would go for the windows. That’s a better choice for engineering. I’ve had an HP 6-71 laptop for the past for years. It still works beautifully but you should get something more current.
