I know the obvious answer is that passion is the deciding factor, but let's just say, in general, does class president really hold as much prestige as a club president? (The club may be DECA, NHS, etc... not those obscure clubs such as ping pong club or hacky sack club) And if so (I believe obviously it does but I just want your input in this anyway), can it be a deciding factor when it comes to admissions? By this, I mean will class president make an officer indifferent or sparkle with delight? Does anyone have any experience with what I'm talking about?

i would personally say class president is just as good because there are probably more people in the class than in the club so your decisions affect more people

in my experience, class president has always been more of a popularity contest and once one is elected to the position nothing ever gets done or accomplished. at my school (a very large public hs) maybe 25% of the student body votes, while the rest couldnt care less, and after that you never hear from it again. in other words, it's just a title. however, i still think colleges haven't quite caught onto this and it's still a pretty "prestigious" thing.

however, my friend was class president of her senior class last year but thought it was the stupidest crap ever so she didnt put it in her application. (i even saw it). she got into duke just fine without it...

to make a long story short, my vote goes to club president but only if you get a lot of things done. the "class president" name still gets you far even if you sit on your butt all day

"I mean will class president make an officer indifferent or sparkle with delight?"

Probably not if you're talking about highly competitive schools. They see tons of these every day, and the recognize that these positions are often just popularity contests.

depends on what club...if you're talking about MUN secretary general, then i think thats better than class president...if you're talking about like some random "board games club" or something, it wont do much

Yea it really depends. Key club leutenant governor would be better than class prez. if its just ordinary president, then class is better

Hey being president of any club will help you...but being president of Amnesty International is more significant than being president of the shopping club.

Yes my school has a shopping club.

Being a class officer and club officer are two totally different things, but they're both popularity contests.

Being a class officer means that people (supposedly the general majority of your class) like and respect you as a person. Being a club officer means club members like and respect you in the context of that club. So which is preferable really depends on the application. Perhaps someone with very interactive, leadership-necessitating interests - like government or social work - would benefit more from being a class officer. But someone whose specialty is very specific - perhaps a science researcher - would benefit more from being the president of a scientific research club.

My personal opinion is that it's more advantageous to be a club officer because you get to immerse yourself in a field that you love - not deciding what the Homecoming theme should be. Plus, you can have more to show for your position. A club officer can do a lot more - initiate programs, lead teams, etc - than a class officer, who has to run everything by layers of bureaucracy and less opportunity for individual distinguishment.

So it's not necessarily how you get elected, but what you do with your power.

Sort of an extension of this question... I have been Student Government president for not only this year (senior year) but last year as well. Is that (bad choice of words here) significantly more significant than class president?

Thank you guys.

I agree with theoneo. Hopefully I will be president of french club and class president.

Class president would be better without question. Though in our school, both have less power than a Manchurian puppet king.

which would look better?

student gov't president
or
president and founder of tutoring club (I actually did start this club).

shopping club .... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

AAAAHHH, my stomach's hurtin yo

lukeli88, depends on how much success your tutoring club has had. if you've had significant success and positive feedback and highlights, i'd say thats better.

however, if you just started it for the heck of it, then student govt. prez
