I was born and raised in China, and moved to America when I was 5...and I'm planning on moving back there in the future, like for a job or something. I'm fluent in English/Mandarin/Shanghainese, though a little sketchy on reading/writing Chinese :P

I've been a debater for six years, and I'm really interested in law, politics, and business...but honestly, the idea of sitting at a desk for years of my life doesn't really appeal to me. All I know at this point is that I definitely want to go back to China...any suggestions of what major(s) I should be looking into?

If you’re interested in law, politics, and business, but you don’t want to spend all your time sitting in front of a desk, and you want to be in China, it seems like being President of the PRC would be your best bet.

Well, first off… If you major in politics or law, chances are they will be from an American focus? American law, American politics? I don’t know what you’ll be able to do with those degrees in another country; It’d be something you’d want to look into. I can’t weigh in on that really because I am not a major in any of those areas.

I don’t know that any of those careers would necessarily tie you to a desk. I think that’s the stereotypical view, but there’s going to be a lot more involved than simply typing on a PC in an office. Those are three very different types of careers. There are probably a million possibilities, and many of them are probably a lot different than you’d expect. I suggest that you research the different degrees, the specialties within them, the courses required (a great way to decide where your interests lie,) and even the job market in the area you’d like to live.

UC San Diego has international studies with concentrations in anthropology, sociology, political science, literature, history, economics, and linguistics.

I would suggest International Relations… or International Studies, then focusing on a certain track (economics, etc). That way you can get the business side but also the humanities side of it, if you’re interested.

If you plan to reside in China for your career, for political and buisness ( alumi) reasons, you may want to study at a well known school within China.
