Which majors for Study Abroad?

Which majors can fit study abroad to their schedule? I heard that some majors are hard to do study abroad. Which majors are these and which majors can study abroad easily?

One major that I know is very hard to study abroad with is Nursing. At least at my university, the program is very strict and is laid out so that they have very little say in the classes that they are able to take each semester.

Most majors though are fairly easy to study abroad with. One piece of advise though is to try to not do some general education required classes so that you have them when you want to go study abroad. The universities that you are able to go to may be limited in their programs and you may want to have the option of taking some general education requirements abroad.

Best to check first with your university and then with the program in which you are interested. The humanities work well at most universities/programs. Oxford, for example, just about anything works.

One more note: some universities and majors may only take a certain number of courses from your study abroad year, so make sure you have a four year plan before embarking on a semester or year abroad so you don’t find yourself in a pickle your senior year. (Speaking from my own nightmarish return from Vienna to find I had to take vast more numbers of courses than I had anticipated my senior year so I could graduate that spring. I also read the websites from some of my son’s universities to which he applied. Ivies are particularly sticky.)
