Taking geometry currently in freshman year. If I want to be able to take Calc Bc by senior year I’d have to take a math class online to get ahead. What is more doeable online and better regarding long term success in high school math, precalc or algebra two?
Why can’t you take calculus BC senior year without doing anything special?
9th geometry
10th algebra 2
11th precalculus
12th calculus BC
At my school students are supposed to take AB as a prereq to BC. Unless you are super exceptional at math.
What’s wrong with finishing high school in calculus AB?
Nothing is wrong with that. If I have the option to go to BC I don’t see why to hold back.
Can I get an answer to the original question?
algebra 2 is more doable online regarding your long term success, because it is basically just practice of algebra 1 and introducing a few new concepts (Rational expressions (fractions with polynomials in them)Transformations on functions(vertical and horizontal shifts)One-to-one functionsInverse functionsExponential functionsLogarithms and are not foreign concepts)
but if you do precalc online, it will be hard for you in calculus, because many kids at my school did precalc online and ended up with Cs in Calc BC (in 10th grade…!) the said they regretted it and wouldn’t do it again if they had the choice. Also, Precalculus is a general subject that encompasses the algebra and trigonometry necessary to take calculus, so it is harder than Algebra II (as Algebra II is typically part of the precalc curriculum).
