Which math class is more interesting/useful for a Senior BME/EE?

Hi,

I'm a senior doing both BME/EE at JHU, and I need one more class to fulfill the minor requirement (also I like math and want to take another class in my last semester, haha), so I was wondering which one of these classes would you recommend?

Dynamical Systems

Partial Differential Equations

Which is (on average based on subject matter) more difficult and which is more interesting?

I have taken math up to Calc III, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, and Prob/Stat. My favorite has been Differential Equations (follwoed by Lin Alg, which I no longer remember -_-).

Any advice would be helpful! :)

Cheers!

I would recommend that you take a class in Analysis. It’s theoretical but learning how to think this way is essential for accessing much of the theoretical literature in many engineering fields, especially when it comes to optimization and advanced statistical techniques. It’s a really beautiful subject. If taught well, it’s difficult.

The other two don’t seem as broadly applicable and you probably learned all that you need about solving partial differential equations in your engineering classes if you studied fluids or electrostatics. However, if Analysis is beyond your comfort zone, I’d go with the Partial DiffEq.

Just my opinion.
