which math sat II test?

I'm signing up for the sat subject tests soon and havea few questions....
1) right now i'm in precalculus and doing decent.. B last semester and solid A so far this semester. Generally I'm a pretty good math student. Should I take the math I or math II test? does taking the math I test look "bad" or slacker-ish?

2) I'm in french 4 right now... would i be prepared to take the french sat II in may or june? or should I wait until early senior year?

Math I supposedly has a harsh curve, and Math II has a more lenient one.

Math II is over precalc, so I'd do that, since (presumably) you'll remember everything you just learned.

1) taking math I doesnt make you seem like a slacker. not at all. the math I test is generally easier, but the curve isnt as high. for example, if you get one question wrong, you get a 790. with the math II, the harder test, the curve is high. you can get 5 or 6 problems wrong and still get an 800. if i were you, i would take a practice test for each level. which ever one you score highest, you take that test. but you should never be discouraged to take the math I. still, i would check the schools that you are looking to apply to to see what they want. when my friend applied to stanford, she took the math I. but then she discovered that they wanted her to take the math II. so she ended up wasting time

2) take it in june. may, you have to deal with AP exams. do it in june. you might forget it over the summer...plus, if you are planning to retake the ACT/SAT in the fall, you dont want to have to deal with SAT IIs also

As for the French SAT II, ask your French teacher. The foreign language program at my high school is incredibly weak- I skipped a year of French and took the highest possible level as a junior, and I only got a 590 on my French SAT II (which was much, much better than everyone else who took it at my school, but colleges won't know that...).

So yeah, look at the College Board website, read through the practice questions, and discuss it with your teacher.

thank you everyone for the replies!
