Which math series to take?

I just took the Calculus AB test this past April and am expecting a score of 4 or 5. Although I might major in the humanities, I'm planning to follow the Pre-Medicine curriculum. Which math series should I take (3 versus 31)?

Anyone? (10 characters)

i think you should go with the 31 series. if you get a 4 or a 5 on the AB, you should be pretty competent at math.

Alright, thanks.

How about 4 or 5 on BC? Would I go for 32 series instead, or still 31?

i was wondering if pretend you took like math31a in the fall, could you NOT take the next series which is math31b just because there is a horrible teacher teaching the class? can you wait till there is a better teacher and like take it spring or later?

If you're premed, 3 series. There's no point in taking 31 32 33 if you're premed. I got a 5 on AB and ended up getting a D+ in 3B, so just watch out for crappy professors. Stay clear of Kenley Jung.

yeah but i plan to major in busecon or econ. all i need is math31a and math31b. so if i do need to take 31a and 31b and for example, there is a horrible teacher like jung teaching it, should i and can i skip the class and take it another time? er like if i took 31a in fall, is it a good idea to skip 31b in the winter and try to take it in the SPRING for a better teacher? or is it bad since the material won't be fresh.

jhype: How hard exactly are these courses? D+ is giving me the shivers.

Take the Math 3 series if you're pre-med... Not only is it easier, it has a focus on applications to scientific calculations (and biology, in particular).

me = pwned by jhype and flopsy. but my major requires 31/32/33, so me = pwned by ucla too.

Yeah, you don't have to take them in consecutive quarters. But you may be doing yourself a disservice because:

it won't be as fresh

it might delay your ability to take other classes

The 3 series as a whole isn't that bad. I got an A the second time I took 3B, it was really just the prof. Seriously, look up Kenley Jung... he has the lowest rating on bruinwalk/hardest rating. He wasn't rated back then, though, so I didn't know. Ugh. I hate him with all my heart.

3C is a bit boring though unless you're into stats, but overall, all your premed cronies will be in the 3 series as well, so I'd recommend it. 4/5 on AB should get you out of 3A, so that only leaves 2 classes.

UCLA changed it this year. I think they are forcing all premeds to take 3 quarters of math no matter what score one gets on the AP.

they cant force anything. premed isnt a declared major or anything like that so they cant impose certain course requirements because you're premed. it just depends on what the med school you want to apply to requires. if your med school requires 3 quarters of math regardless of AP, then you need 3 quarters. if your med school says APs can count as a math course, then there you go. UCLA has no say in that (unless you're applying to UCLA med school of course).
