Which Med School should I apply to

I am a junior at Boston College and have a 3.5 science GPA and a 3.62 overall GPA. I am involved in extra-curricular activities such as Club Hockey where I have demonstrated leadership as team President, etc. Also, I have done research the past two summers and have pretty good health-related experience. I plan on taking the MCAT this summer. Any advice for where I should apply or what schools seem like they would be a good fit for me, assuming that I do somewhat well on the MCAT?

Take the MCAT (and rock it to help out yor GPA). Then a meaningful list can be proposed.

Right now all we know is that your GPA will hurt you in the app process. A stellar MCAT claws some ground back.

Are you calculating your “science gpa” (not the correct terminology for AMCAS) correctly? Remember , it is just all Math, Physics, Bio, and Chem courses. Not all science courses.

Yes, the science GPA I have been given was calculated through the Pre-Med office at the school. Regardless, any suggestions for schools that are compatible with my GPA now?

Almost impossible to say unless there is a MCAT score to go with it.

A 3.5 GPA + 35 MCAT will have a hugely different list than 3.5 GPA + 30 MCAT.

your pre-med office or library should have this: [Amazon.com: Medical School Admission Requirements (MSAR) 2012-2013: The Most Authoritative Guide to U.S. and Canadian Medical Schools (Medical School Admission Requirements, United States and Canada) (9781577540977): Association of American Medical C](http://www.amazon.com/Medical-School-Admission-Requirements-2012-2013/dp/1577540972/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335648232&sr=8-1)

otherwise you should invest in one or in an older edition if you want to spend less

Or buy the online USNews.

But just so you can have somewhere to start, seems like most people apply to all schools in their state (esp publics, where residents have a clear advantage) and a collection of private schools roughly within their stats ranges. You will have a tough time finding private schools with average GPA <3.6, which is why knowing your MCAT score is important–like someone mentioned above, a 35 is much different than a 30 when GPA is slightly below average.

If you can craft a list of 15-20 schools that fit those criteria, you should be in business.

(Note: your residency isn’t necessarily MA even though you went there for undergrad–it’s probably wherever your parents live, assuming you’re still a dependent.)

OP,
Your list will depend on MCAT score.
