So I got into a few BS/DO programs and I was wondering which would be best

NYIT BS/DO 3+4
Hartford Pre-Osteopathy 3+4
Utica 3+4 or 4+4
Monmouth/St.George 4+4 BS/MD
Gannon BS/DO 3+4 or 4+4

For NYIT I got a $14,000 scholarship each year
Hartford - $22,000
Utica - $21,000
Monmouth - $20,000

I know that for Gannon and Utica there's a limited amount of seats like 5-10 which really concerns me. I'm not really considering those schools. My cousins goes to NYIT and the coursework/gpa and MCAT requirement is high but they have a number of seats (almost 60) which is good. Hartford I got a good scholarship but I'm not sure how solid the program is, there isn't much info about it nor can I find any students in the program who can talk about it. I just want to know how many students from the program move up to the med school. I'm really considering Monmouth since an MD would be nice and it allows me to apply to other programs (where schools like Gannon do not), I got a good scholarship and it's close to home. The idea of going to the islands worries me but I contacted the school and as long as I maintain their requirements my seat is secured.

I just want to hear more thoughts/opinions.

Well I want to be a psychiatrist. I enjoy science if it means anything. I do prefer the philosophies behind osteopathy, their “whole person” approach rather then targeting and treating based on specific symptoms. However, since there isn’t a significant difference between MD and DO, in all honesty, I rather be a MD.

But I just want to take the safest route because at the end of the day I just want to practice medicine.

There is a significant difference between your college mates during DO and MD. The level of academic performance required for DO at undergraduate level and MCAT seems to be much lower than what is needed for an MD.

You may be aware of what diff mental health workers do but just in case you’re not…

Are you interested in counseling, diagnosing and/or treating with medicine?

Psychiatrists diagnose and treat with medicine-- some counsel but it’s getting rarer because of insurance. Psychiatrists also run inpatient units and can do research.
Psychologists diagnose, test and sometimes do counseling.
Social worker therapists may diagnose and counsel.
Psychiatric nurse practitioners can do all three, at least in every state.
