Does it matter how good/prestigious/high-ranked of a medical school you go to? Don't you come out being a doctor anyways? Or is it extremely important if you want to specialize?

Some people argue that the higher ranked medical schools will help you with getting into a top ranked residency (which, ultimately, probably matters more than the med school) because of their "connections." Another time that it could be important to attend a top medical school is if you are planning on going into research.

If we're talking about the super-prestigious medical schools, having an MD from such schools will help you later if you go into private practice and need to build a clientele. Just from a pure marketing standpoint, it is obviously desirable to say that you have an MD from Harvard.

However, generally the differences are small. Your residency match is far more important in determining the arc of your medical career.
