I am somehow confused in college selection. It seems that it is better to attend a well-know univ even its engineering ranking is low

Are you kidding me? Would you go to Harvard for aerospace engineering?

You want to try and find a nice balance between the two. You want a degree from a good school, but the trick is that the school must be respected in the "engineering world."

^^^Totally agree with this statement

Similar to what I said in the thread entitled 'Does prestige of undergraduate school matter in Engineering', I think what really matters is how sure you are that you want to work as an engineer? As I pointed out, most people who start out in engineering majors will not actually finish them, but instead will switch majors to something else. Even of those that do finish engineering degrees, many of them will not take engineering careers, instead preferring to pursue something else. Let's be perfectly honest. Most 17-18 year olds do not really know what they want to do.

To give you an example, what if you turn down Harvard for, say, Georgia Tech for engineering, only to find out later that you don't really want to be an engineer?
