which New Brunswick campus?

Which of the campuses in New Brunswick/Piscataway is the biggest, has the most people, and is the most popular choice for incoming freshman? (Busch Campus, College Avenue Campus, Douglass Campus, Livingston Campus, etc.)?

i would have to say busch
college ave is for upperclassmen..douglass is an all girl campus, and livingston is usually for people w/ low credentials, or people who just applied for late housing

woah woah woah. hold on there, darkhobo is completely off-base with his answer.
college ave is the ONLY real campus. it is the central hub, it is where events happen, where parties happen, where the grease trucks are, where life is. busch is for asians, no need to kid ourselves.
no, there is plenty of housing for freshman on college ave. there are several freshman only dorms, and theyre often the liveliest of the dorms at that.
i was in clothier last semester and it was insanely fun, im in hardenbergh now (also college ave dorm), but i often go back to clothier because so much happens there or with those people.

remember kids, college ave is the real campus, none of the others have any saving graces.

College Ave is definitely the place to be. There are parties all the time and its right in the heart of new brunswick. And like BillDoor said, grease trucks. No other Rutgers campus comes close.

How is Brett Hall? I know it's for honors students. However, if it's too dull, is it a better choice for an honors student to pass it up for another freshman dorm? What benefits do honors students get from living in Brett?

Everyone tells me that Busch has the best dorms because it has the best dining hall.

You should go on the bus tour of RU during a day classes are being held. College Ave area, and the Rutgers College buildings there is the main place to be, as noted. Of course if your classes are all at Busch you might prefer to be there.
DD is going to do Douglass if she attends, at least that's the plan right now. Very beautiful campus, but you can't walk down to college ave -need to take the bus.

what do you all think of the cook campus? I think thats where I'd have most of my classes

Cook and Douglass are supposed to be beautiful. I hear that once you live on Cook, you'll never leave. I've spent nearly all of my time on College Ave and Busch though.

Busch is fine, but I wouldn't want to live there. It's very convenient if you're a science major, but I would just get bored I think... though I'm sure I would manage. I like College Avenue because its near New Brunswick and everything is close by.

I live in Brett Hall, opmsma--- It's definitely not too quiet or dull, I think it was ranked as like the second or third party dorm at Rutgers. I guess the only difference is that in Brett people will generally be more tolerant if you decide not to party, since the College Ave atmosphere lends itself to that with all the frats nearby. I would try to live in Brett if you can, it's great... go to a Scholar's Day for the honors program and find out more about it.

Cook/Douglass campus is very beautiful, especially in the spring. I first saw it in 97, taking a bunch of music kids to see Mason Gross, which is also on campus. There were flowering cherry trees, beautiful old buildings, tons of kids all over the lawns. Cook itself being an agricultural school has a mini-farm on the grounds complete with horses and cows.
The edge of Douglass is close to a high crime area but I've heard the security of Douglass/Cook is higher than even the College Ave area, and buses run back and forth.

How do they assign dorms; is it first come, first served?

Yeap... so once you get your housing contract and decide where you want to live, send it in.

In alphabetical order:

Busch: Best dining hall, best gym, good student center, best dorms (esp. upperclass), best fields if you like being outdoors. Way too much surface parking distracting from scenery. Cheap, but highly regarded golf course. Easy to get to College Ave while providing a place to retreat to. Rutgers Stadium.

College Ave: Certainly the place to be for parties, frats, etc if that's your kind of thing. Lots of excellent and/or affordable restaurants, theatre. Home of some of the best (old queen's, van nest hall) and worst (scott hall, river dorms) buildings at Rutgers. Dorms are average at best. Most Freshmen's first choice. Smallest physically.

Cook: Beautiful buildings, atmosphere. Best scenery. Good dining hall. Dorms can be a little eh. Isolated with lots of open spaces (viz. farm) to get lost in at night.

Douglass: Has been all girls, same "campus" as cook though

Livingston: University president said it best, a 1960's cast off. poor facilities, nothing to do. Frankly, you can get by fairly well there, but it is everyone's last choice. That said, best take out. the RAC.

I spend my two and a half years on Busch and love it. Wouldn't have it any other way. But for you, only you can decide. I agree that you should take a tour, walk around, talk to people. Guided tours are good, but just seeing for yourself and talking to people there is best.

A good friend of mine is on the football team so he knows his stuff about the parties, lol and he said College Ave. is best but if you can't get in there, go to Busch.

Rutgers is starting to sound sucky. Too many campuses. However, I will still apply there.

Though College Ave. is where most of the parties are actually located, if you're on another campus, it's not that big of deal taking the bus to College Ave. two or so times a week for a party. I mean, if you really plan on partying most nights a week, then hey, being right there might be better for you. Otherwise, it's kind of nice to be away from all the partying and what not when you want to be.

Oh, and as far as dining halls, I'd have to say that Neilson, on Cook/Douglass, is nearly as good if not equal to the Busch dining hall. I've only been to the one on College Ave. once, but I'm not a fan at all. I try to avoid it if I can.

And Fsu--the different campuses are nice, especially if you feel the need for a change of scenery or something.

supermtt37...our guys requested honors housing on College Ave [i.e., Brett Hall]on one of the first days for registering. Their 2d choice was non-honors College Ave, then Busch honors. Do you think that's a wise order of choices?or should they have gone with Busch honors [McCormick] 2d? We'd appreciate your insight.
also, how many honors freshmen get into Brett? In other words, do they have a good shot at getting into Brett in view of their early request? Thanks

250 can fit into Brett. If you did it one of the first days, I'd say it is almost guaranteed.

The river dorms have ridiculously small rooms. If one roommate has a body odor problem, the other roommate is screwed.

250= total number of people in brett (that estimate might be a little high i feel).

If your son(s) requested housing within the first few days, they should get Brett i would think. Busch is fine to be on for class and research, etc. but I wouldn't want to live there. I get depressed on rainy days looking at the bleak buildings (ack so emo). However, McCormick is a fun place to live. I would choose McCormick over random College Ave for a freshman, just because you're going to make your friends from your dorm... and I'd rather pick from a more intelligent crowd, on average.
