Inspired by the thread about which languages people speak . . . .

If you could start to learn any language in the world, which language would it be and why? When would you want to start learning it by, and how fluent do you want to become?

I think I'd want to learn, well, conversational/spoken Italian, just because its so similar to Spanish that I think it would be easy to pick up, and conversational Mandarin because that is becoming the most popular language in the world.

I mentioned some of this in the other thread, but I’d like to learn Italian, Latin, Icelandic, Irish, Hebrew, and Arabic…I could probably come up with more eventually but that looks good enough for now. I know Icelandic is a little strange, but I love the accent.

Lol, I think I’m the only one who only knows English on this website…I’m took Spanish last year as a freshmen but i don’t have it again until the spring so I’ve kind of forgotten everything.
I’ve always been fascinated by different languages and tried on several occasions to start learning, but have had trouble sticking with it. I really want to learn French because that’s what my grandparents speak (we are French Canadian) but I haven’t been able to find a good program to learn.
I would also love to learn more unique languages such as Macedonian or Urdu, or possibly cool ones like Ancient Greek or Old Babylonian.

Japanese, Korean, Yiddish, Hebrew, some Latin definitely, and probably Swedish. However, I gotta get through German, Spanish, and French before I can get to those other languages. >_<

I’m not sure if I’m allowed to post links or not, but for anyone interested in getting into Italian a little, google iluss or iluss.it, where you can find some free lessons & exercises for all levels of Italian study. I found it last night and it looks like a good resource I can work from in my spare time. :]

@iwaitz4u, ditto on that one. I’ve been wanting to learn Ter Sami just to resurrect it. unfortunately, 50 years seems unrealistic, considering there are only 2 speakers left, neither of whom is under 70.
