The title says it all.

Personally I would say MSU is better than WPU. If you could apply to Ramapo and see what happens.

I would say MSU, but I would also agree with the above poster that you should also check out Ramapo. I’ve heard good things about Montclair though; I was just discussing the reputation of the school with my friend’s family at dinner tonight, and her mom said that a coworker today referred to it as an “excellent” school. So there you go.

On another note, is William Paterson a state school? For some reason I thought it was private. I know that MSU and Ramapo are state schools, but I didn’t realize that WPU was as well.

Generally, of the ones mentioned, they are thought of as Ramapo, Montclair, William Paterson. However, it may depend on the major. What majors are you considering?

We have a couple of friends who went to Montclair to become teachers (one elementary, one secondary). It took both of them over 5 years to finish due to poor advising. The secondary ed. person then went back to Montclair for her master’s in her subject. Again, poor advising, and she took a higher level course that she didn’t do well enough in, and the kicked her out of the program. She is now planning to go to William Paterson for a second certification instead.

My D is attending William Paterson for teaching also. She has had a very difficult time with the bureaucracy. The people she has dealt with have been nice, but they have given her wrong and incomplete information (again, with an advisor who does not always get back to her promptly) and she has had to scramble to try to get things done correctly so she can get the classes she wants. She is still trying to get this semester straightened out and the semester starts Tuesday. She is a little stressed to say the least.

anemgi ~ yes, William Paterson is a state school.

Agree with Kitty 56. You might also consider Rowan and Stockton, which some place above MSU (they are smaller). Both MSU and WPU have nice campuses.

Stockton didn’t look that nice when I was just driving around the campus…
