Why wouldn’t they just look at all of your classes? o.0

Because courses like gym and health wouldn’t strike the interest of most colleges, especially the more prestigious ones.

I’m just not sure what other classes won’t be important to them other than gym and health.

@DrDre94,
My counselor told me that prep schools (and I’m assuming colleges) only look at your MAJOR academic classes (like History, English, Math, etc). I doubt they’ll care that much about health, gym, etc.

Cool… but which ones actually besides Math, English, Science, History actually matter?

Foreign language, probably.

Would Business Management and Sports/Entertainment Marketing even be looked at?

I am asking this because I am applying to engineering colleges…

I have to bump this thread because i’m wondering the same exact thing

Well since you’re going into a school where the concentration is primarily in science and math those grades will definitely be looked at first. Colleges like those will want to see if you have showed interest in engineering by taking higher level/advanced courses.

Next, they will more than likely look at your other academic classes such as english, etc. The other classes will certainly be looked at for a good academic standing but probably not anything more than that.

I guess it is also good to know why this question is being raised? Did you not perform well in your other non math/science classes?

No I did REALLY well in those classes (Business and Sports/Entertainment Marketing I got A+'s), but I just fear that they won’t even be looked at (not that they should because it is a completely different major but it would help towards my gpa when colleges recalculate them). I originally wanted to do a business major, which is why I chose those classes, but now I have decided that engineering is what I will do.

Actually, an admissions rep my friend has met with said that gym is important: it shows character.
Usually, gym grades are based on effort and not skill, and therefore, colleges like to see the effort you show, and your character.

I’ve never met a person who got a B in gym.

Wait so should I compute my GPA using all classes or certain ones (like others have said)?

I get the feeling that they’ll consider everything but “Lunch,” lol…

Ok cool… I guess it depends what college you apply to, but I ain’t applying to any MIT school lol

I’m gonna count every class but gym
