Currently thinking of what to write for my commonapp essays. I agree that for essays, its how you write about the topic you've chosen, and you should really write on your passion after finding your voice. I've done that and I've got a shortlist of several possible topics.Nonetheless, the adcom reading my essay will be a total stranger like you are, so I'm wondering which of these topics seems most interesting to you at first glance?

How I helped a friend recover from major depression to take A levels (whilst taking my A levels)

My experience packing parachutes in the army (and other "special delivery services by air")

Writing a degree level paper on "The Future of the Chinese Language in Singapore", during a research programme with the National University of Singapore

How I led my chess team to win Division I of the National Inter-Club Championships

My participation in a 500km, 3 day cycling trip across Malaysia for charity

My experience in a school trip to northeastern USA, including Harvard Model UN, a visit to the Pentagon and White House

I want to remind you that whichever one is most important to you is generally the best one. That said, number 2 has me personally the most interested.

The army one sounds the most interesting, plus it’s the most likely to stand out as it’s something most other people haven’t gone through. Good luck!
