X^2+kx+3=0 k is a negative number
I’m assuming you meant “value of x?”
If k = -4, then x = 1 and x = 3 are solutions and possible values of x…
Yes dude!! You’re right, it says find the value of x but from where did you get the k=-4???
@Sacados1 Assuming I interpreted the question correctly as, k is any negative number, what is a possible value of x (where x is nonnegative, according to grid-in restrictions):
I just plugged in x = 1 as a “possible” value of x --> 1^2 + 1*k + 3 = 0. Solving, k = -4. Here, we have that k is negative, and x^2 - 4x + 3 indeed has x = 1 and 3 as solutions. This is kind of a back-solving method because there are tons of possible answer choices.
FINALLY got it!!! Thank you SOO much!!!
Btw is this question multiple-choice or grid-in? If it is grid-in, you could show that any positive value of x could be a solution in the equation.
Multiple choice dude

@Sacados1 I just looked at it; there seems to be an error because there is no positive integer solution.
